  Performing Arts Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation for dance, music, and sports

Performing artists and athletes are vulnerable to the development of an array of musculoskeletal impairment, such as repetitive strain and acute trauma. Rehabilitation for these populations demands a highly skilled physical therapist, who is knowledgeable in the occupational specific injuries and is able to help artists and athletes return to their art or sport as soon and as safely as possible. The physical therapist at PAPT are dedicated to treating these injuries effectively and efficently with respect to a safe return to activity or work, as well as to help artists athletes prevent injuries in the future with instruction in alignment, dynamic muscle integration and proper warm up and cool down programs. We are also skilled in helping those who must continue performing while injured. Educating our patients in how to manage their injuries pre and post performance is an integral part of every treatment at PAPT.

Dancers - Dancers commonly suffer from repetitive strain injuries and occasionally from acute trauma. Dancers and especially Broadway performers do not have an "off season" and can be expected to perorm in high heels, heavy headpieces, and on raked stages. The physical therapits at PAPT have years of dancer experience, both as performers and as therapists, and will use this knowledge in their treatment approaches for their patients. In addition to treating injuries, PAPT therapists also offer technique and performance evaluation and analysis

Musicians - Musicians commonly experience repetitive strain injuries in the back, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands. Positions that musicians must maintain while playing are commonly stressful to the body, and performance and practice schedules rarely allow for extended periods of rest. It is crucial to address these injuries early in their development to prevent further trauma. In addition to treating injuries, PAPT therapists also offer technique and performance evaluation and analysis

Atheletes - Atheletes frequently encounter acute trauma and repetitive strain injuries throughout their careers. Whether during the off-season, pre-season, or playing season, the physical therapists at PAPT are commited to helping athletes heal to their fullest potential. We are as dedicated to the recreational athlete as we are to the professional one. In addition to treating injuries, PAPT therapists also offer sport technique evaluation and analysis
