Myofascial Release
Fascia is a layer of connective tissue
that encases every muscle, organ and vessel in the body.
Due to injury, surgical scarring or a long history of abnormal
postural, environmental, or work stresses, the fascia may
become adhered or bound to the tissue above and below it.
This prevents free movement of skin on fascia on muscle, causing
a painful soft tissue dysfunction.
Myofascial release is a hands-on technique
aimed at breaking up these myofascial tensions and restrictions.
In an attempt to soften, lengthen and realign the fascia through
gentle kneeding and stretching, range of motion and flexibility
will be restored while decreasing pain and stiffness and increasing
circulation. This technique may be used in conjunction
with many other techniques including postural re-education,
manipulation, Authentic Pilates, trigger point therapy and
other neurodynamic mobilization.
