       Feldenkrais® Method

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. was a physicist, judo expert, mechanical engineer and educator. The system and method of movement education he developed is called the FELDENKRAIS METHOD® It consists of two parts. Floor work or movement lessons called AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT® and table work called FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION® This method of somatic education uses movements that are small and awareness is directed to your body. This attention to the self will help improve every day movements and function as well as repetitive actions found in dancing or playing an instrument or singing. This work will allow you to find the optimal patterns of movement available to you, and in the process you will find that your range of motion and ease of motion will improve. Your balance and body coordination will improve and your ability to rediscover your inherent gracefulness and efficiency of movement is enhanced. As you incorporate these improvements into your body and life you will often see an enhancement in functioning in other areas of your life.

The integration of the developmental sequence, human development, basic physics, biomechanics and learning is the Feldenkrais Method®. We are all creatures of adaptation and habituation and over time loose touch with many parts and functions in our bodies, this method allows you to reconnect with your self-image through movement lessons and table work. This new found attention to the body and to the self enables functional movements that are economical so that they can again become part of your every day life. By expanding you vocabulary and options for movement again, you are able to live your life in a more comfortable, efficient and fulfilling way. Leaving many of your habitual neuromuscular patterns and rigidities that presently are causing you aches and pains and a decrease in your ability to move freely as you did as a child. Open up your world to the wonders of movement with out pain and allow your life to become enhanced so that your mental as well as physical well being can fully integrate into your environment. These are just some of the goals of the Feldenkrais Method®

Mr Gallagher became a Certified Feldenkrais® practitioner in 1991. Since then he has been practicing and integrating the Feldenkrais Method into his work with the performing artist. Many of his exercises are an integration of awareness through movement lessons and performer specific needs. He continues to practice functional integration and develop and learn new ways to incorporate it into his treatment sessions with performers and all his patients.
