Alignment
Alignment is the key component of posture. If the
body is out of skeletal alignment with gravity while doing any
exercise then the exercise is strengthening an imbalance in
the system. whether sitting standing or lying down the
internal body awareness should always have the underlying
skeletal alignment as close to gravitational plumb line
as possible. This means all the joints and bones as close to
their physiological balance as possible one in alignment with
all others. Our body has an internal balancer that was first
used when we were infants and learned to stand. We are hard
wired to find balance in the skeletal system through weight
shifting. This back and forth movement allows the body to find
its balance point. Children spend years perfecting these
skills and habitual patterns of movement. Once this movement
most adults consider play is stopped we as adults no longer
practice these types of movements. Injury, emotional stress,
work environment, poor habits will all lead to learning poor
alignment habits that over time can help lead to
osteoarthritis and numerous other degenerative diseases and
dysfunctions.
There for all adults can benefit from daily skeletal
alignment exercise that should become habitual just like
brushing your teeth is a good healthy habit. These exercise
can be applied in any position. But are usually done in
standing and sitting as this is were gravity can cause the
most damage is the skeleton is off alignment. SO when
your standing in line at the bank, grocery store or anywhere
they are easily done. Sitting at the office it is a good idea
to take a break every hour and do your sitting alignment
exercise to relive the stress from sitting and reinforce your
skeletal alignment so that you can build the endurance in the
sitting muscles to hold the good sitting posture. These
exercise are designed more for awareness then strength or
flexibility. They are gentle and done slowly and with
awareness, intention and attention for best results. Please look below for some of the many alignment
exercises and lessons we have developed to help you find your dynamic posture that will allow your to live life with less pain
and better function. Please re-read the disclaimer on the home page before you do any of the exercises found on this web site
