What to expect once accepted to PAPT's Affiliation program
PAPT’s Objectives for Clinical Education
Upon completion of our clinical education program, the student will:
- Accurately and systematically evaluate patients based on the diagnosis and clinical symptoms of a given patient.
- Accurately evaluate performance techniques and movement dysfunctions of a given patient.
- Formulate physical therapy diagnoses based on results of an evaluation.
- Create treatment plans for patients, incorporating information gathered from the evaluation.
- Form treatment plans demonstrating creativity, resourcefulness, and sensitivity to the specific needs of the patient as a performing artist.
- Develop an understanding of the PAPT-specific therapeutic exercises and be able to teach exercises to patients with good technique and clarity.
- Communicate effectively in writing all documentation including initial evaluations, progress notes, home exercise programs, worker’s compensation forms, etc.
- Modify treatment plans according to the patient’s response and level of proficiency.
- Communicate verbally with patients with sensitivity to the patient’s needs.
- Establish and maintain professional rapport with patients and staff.
- Demonstrate safety skills and sound clinical judgment with treating patients.
- Demonstrate good body mechanics for manual therapy.
- Exhibit enthusiasm and interest in continuing his/her education of physical therapy and the performing arts.
- Complete an in-service/project to the physical therapy staff. Your clinical instructor will assist in determining an acceptable topic.
