What to expect once accepted to PAPT's Affiliation program

PAPT’s Objectives for Clinical Education

Upon completion of our clinical education program, the student will:

  1. Accurately and systematically evaluate patients based on the diagnosis and clinical symptoms of a given patient.
  2. Accurately evaluate performance techniques and movement dysfunctions of a given patient.
  3. Formulate physical therapy diagnoses based on results of an evaluation.
  4. Create treatment plans for patients, incorporating information gathered from the evaluation. 
  5. Form treatment plans demonstrating creativity, resourcefulness, and sensitivity to the specific needs of the patient as a performing artist.
  6. Develop an understanding of the PAPT-specific therapeutic exercises and be able to teach exercises to patients with good technique and clarity.
  7. Communicate effectively in writing all documentation including initial evaluations, progress notes, home exercise programs, worker’s compensation forms, etc.
  8. Modify treatment plans according to the patient’s response and level of proficiency.
  9. Communicate verbally with patients with sensitivity to the patient’s needs.
  10. Establish and maintain professional rapport with patients and staff.
  11. Demonstrate safety skills and sound clinical judgment with treating patients.
  12. Demonstrate good body mechanics for manual therapy.
  13. Exhibit enthusiasm and interest in continuing his/her education of physical therapy and the performing arts.
  14. Complete an in-service/project to the physical therapy staff.  Your clinical instructor will assist in determining an acceptable topic.
